These weeks have been atrocious. Work has been crazy, the heat has been unbearable, and being sick did not help at all. A day at the aquarium seemed the perfect stress-reliever.
Because summer is our busiest season, it is extremely hard to schedule a vacation, or take off for a few days. I keep dreaming of white sandy beaches, cool drinks, and swimming in the ocean, but due to our work schedule it looks like we won’t do much this summer.
A few days ago a friend invited us to go to the Tennessee Aquarium in Chattanooga, TN for a day trip. Since I had never been to an aquarium and Chattanooga is fairly close to Tuscaloosa, this sounded like a perfect one-day adventure!
We had so much fun learning about all the wonderful creatures at the aquarium. The cool thing about the Tennessee Aquarium is that it is divided into two buildings, one for ocean creatures, and one for river creatures, giving you an extra insight into the flora and fauna found in the Tennessee area. My absolute favorite part was playing with the sting rays and gazing at the majestic sharks.
If you have kids, Chattanooga is a wonderful place for family fun. The whole town is filled with water parks, trails, and playgrounds perfect for some great outdoor fun.
For the grown-ups, just across the Walnut Street Bridge you can enjoy some delicious food and drinks in the super hip part of town. From Spanish tapas to gluten-free hot dogs, Northside has everything you need to satisfy your culinary needs.
After lunch, I highly recommend dancing around the neighborhood (work off that food baby!), and take a stroll on the 2,376 feet wooden bridge. This architectural beauty was built in 1890 to connect the two shores of the Tennessee River, adorning Chattanooga with its beautiful blue hues.
Seriously, if you ever find yourself close to Chattanooga, TN, visit, explore, and live this fascinating city.
